The Malahat Skywalk On Vancouver Island – British Columbia
There’s a new major tourist attraction on 🌲 Vancouver Island in British Columbia – 🍁 Canada and it’s called the – Malahat Skywalk.
The Malahat SkyWalk is a 600-metre gentle 5% circular walkway that slowly leads to the top viewing deck, offering incredible 360 degree scenic views of the Finlayson Arm, Saanich Peninsula, Mount Baker and the beautiful surrounding Coast Mountains.
Malahat Skywalk – Location
This astounding seventeen million dollar attraction is situated on the Malahat First Nation territory and was constructed in conjunction with private investors.
A proactive joint venture with the end result becoming an …
“Environmentally Sound, Socially Proactive And Honour Of The Lands, Its People And Culture.”
Access from the 🌷 City of Victoria is 33 kilometers, or about 35 minutes driving time. as you can’t access the attraction directly off the 🛣 highway heading south.
If you are traveling from the north, at this time you will have to drive past the main entrance to a marked U-Turn point, located at the popular – 🏘 Malahat Chalet.
Hopefully this will be upgraded in the future, as you have to drive 4 kilometers to the U-Turn. So it’s highly recommended to plan your visit on your way up the island, instead of returning at this time.
Be sure to check out my 🗺 Google Map at the bottom of this post, for more detailed directions to the Skywalk.
The Malahat Skywalk Adventure
Your adventure begins once you enter inside the main gate.
There’s a short trail which leads you to the entrance to the scenic walkway, which takes you to the Skywalk structure.
There’s a small booth located at the entrance to the walkway, where an attendant will take your ticket to enter.
This elevated short walkway to the Skywalk, gives you an opportunity to take in the natural surroundings and beauty of nature surrounding you. There’s a few informative signs along the way to check out, including the mysterious – Sasquatch!
The entire facility is suitable for everyone, including wheelchair accessibility and strollers.
Note:
🐶 Pets are not permitted inside the gates to the Skywalk at this time.
The Skywalk Lookout
As you make your way along the elevated trail, the towering Skywalk suddenly appears in the 🌲 forest.
It is a colossal structure reaching ten stories in height and unlike anything you have witnessed to date. It’s a truly unique looking tower, situated 250 metres (820 ft) above sea level.
As you leisurely make your way up the outer platform to the top, the views as you round the spiral climb are incredible!
From the height of the structure, your breath will be taken away by the spectacular view all around as you make your way to the top.
At the top, there’s a huge viewing platform to sit, relax and take in the incredible view from high above. There’s even a rope platform you can cross – if you dare!
A few levels down, there’s even a cool 20 meter/65 foot spiral slide you can try to get you to the bottom.
My wife and I both took the slide down to the bottom and it was great fun! 🙂
Interpretive Nature Trail
During the peak season months of summer, at the bottom of the Skywalk is a snack bar, playground and seating area to enjoy.
After you’re done, you can choose to take the 🥾 Interpretive Nature Trail back to the main entrance.
There’s a gift shop and cafe to browse through and grab a coffee and sandwich.
It was a beautiful 🌄 sunny day in late September on our visit to the Skywalk. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!
At the top, it was a little windy but still warm and comfortable. The surrounding view was simply amazing!
I would certainly recommend checking this attraction out during your visit to – Vancouver Island. It’s a great way to spend a few hours and enjoy the outdoors, along with spectacular scenery thrown in!
Below, I’ve listed the ⛓ link to the Malahat Skywalk official website for your convenience.
You can access much more detailed information, including hours of operation, cost of admission and special events that are held at certain times.
Below, I have also included a link to the Official Vancouver Island Tourism website. Here, you can access everything you need to know when planning a trip to this beautiful country. I have directed the link to their page on Tulum for your convenience.
